Public Election Information

This article describes the governmental voting process for St. Johns County residents. For illustrative purposes, it uses dates from the 2010 election. The St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections oversees the voting process for federal, state, county and local public elections, including elections for JCP CDD Supervisors, who are elected public officials. If there are differences between the information given on this page and that of the Elections Supervisor website, the Supervisor information will prevail.

Note: Beginning July 1, 2009, the Supervisor of Elections Offices at the Ponte Vedra and Julington Creek Annexes were closed. The Tax Collector's office in the 725 Flora Branch Blvd. building has some forms. Others are available on-line or by calling or visiting the main office.

OVERVIEW - Voting in public elections is open to alll registered residents (see the registration requirements online). There is a Primary Election voting period and a General Election voting period.  Candidates for federal, state, county and local offices, including CDD Director seats may be on the ballot. (Note that the POA Board of Directors offices, unlike the CDD Supervisors' seats, are not governmental offices. The CDD is a taxing body whose Supervisors are publicly elected. The JCP POA is a Homeowners' Association and its Directors are elected by JCP property owners according to the Association documents. Refer to the POA Bylaws document in the members' area of the JCP POA website for information on POA elections.)

The ballot may also include Contitutional Amendments, or referendums for funding allocations or modifying statutory laws. The Department of the Supervisor of Elections oversees the voting process. Contact information for that office is as follows: Supervisor of Elections website, phone: (904) 823-2238, Main Office 4455 Avenue A, Suite 101, St. Augustine, FL 32095. See the Supervisor of Elections Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

VOTING IN PERSON - Be sure to bring valid IDs with you when you vote. You may vote during early elections (either Primary or General) at any of several locations, including the conference room at the County Service Center at 725 Flora Branch Boulevard. If you vote on Election Day (of either the Primary or General election), you must use your precinct voting location to cast your vote. JCP spans several precincts, including 101, 102 and 104. Your precinct and Election Day voting location are listed on your voter registration card. If you cannot locate your voter registration card, use this precinct locator to find your precinct number. Then you can verify your precinct voting location.

VOTING BY MAIL - If you wish to vote by mail/absentee ballot, your request for a mail-in ballot must be received by the Supervisor of Elections more than 5 days before the start of the election period. You may make the request by phone, mail, online, or in person. The absentee ballot will contain instructions for returning it. Your mail-in ballot must be received by the Supervisor of Elections by Election Day.

BALLOT INFORMATION - The Supervisor of Elections will mail all registered voters a sample ballot between 30 and 45 days before the election period. You can also use the Supervisor of Elections website, to find out what will be on the ballot. To see who is running, review the Candidates List. If you don’t know which offices represent your area, review the List of Offices by Precinct (Adobe Reader Required). (If you don’t know your precinct number, refer to your voter registration card, or use the precinct locator to find out your precinct number and the list of offices for your area.) Once you know which offices you’ll be voting to fill, you’ll know which candidates to choose from.

Remember, the ballot may contain more than just candidates running for open offices. There may be Consitutional Amendments, or referendums relating to funding or statutory changes. The Supervisor of Elections website will detail any other issues you may be asked to vote on.
